BASIC 5 MATHEMATICS QUESTION 3

STRAND 1: NUMBER
SUB-STRAND 1: Counting, Representation and Cardinality
CONTENT STANDARD 1: Demonstrate an understanding of quantities and place value for multi-digit numerals up to 1000,000
INDICATORS AND EXEMPLARS 1: Model number quantities up to 1,000,000 using graph sheets and multi-base block

EXAMPLE 3:
E.g.3.Give learners teacher-make token currency notes [¢10, ¢100& ¢500 notes] on different coloured-paper and ask them to work out how many will be required to model given amounts up to ¢10,000; e.g. ¢23,480

Use the token currency notes below to write the amount given. Example has been given.

Example to follow

Model GH¢2 321
GH¢2321 = 2 x 1000 + 3 x 100 + 2 x 10 + 1 x 1
Therefore, to model the amount given we need 2 green tokens, 3 yellow tokens, 2 red tokens and 1 blue token.
